Smart Home FAQ
On this page, we have compiled answers to frequently asked questions related to the use of the Power Hub and Vasa Elektriska’s Smart Home.
Who can log in to the Smart Home app?
Anyone who has an electricity sales contract with Vaasan Sähkö can log in to the Smart Home app. A contract partner can also log in.
How do I activate the Smart Home app?
Getting started is easy:
- Download the app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Log in with your online banking credentials.
- If you have a Power Hub, follow the instructions in the package to connect it.
- Add your EV if you have one (Settings → Connections).
- Done!
How is the Smart Home equipment installed?
Power Hub is connected to your electricity meter. Detailed installation instructions are available here.
To set up EV charging, go to Settings → Connections in the app and follow the instructions.
Can I invite other users to the Smart Home app?
Yes. Create an invitation code under Profile → Invitations → Create invitation code. The invited user logs in using the code.
What do Power Hub’s LED indicators mean?
- Pulsating white: not connected to the app
- Blinking blue: waiting for connection
- Dim blue: no data from the electricity meter
- Blue + three flashes: operating normally
- Blinking orange: no internet connection
Power Hub won’t start – what should I do?
The HAN port on the electricity meter must be activated for Power Hub to connect. Your local electricity network company does the activation. If Power Hub does not receive enough power through the HAN port, try providing extra power using a USB-C cable.
Extra power is needed especially if a slightly longer RJ12 cable is used during installation.
Bluetooth can’t detect Power Hub – what should I do?
If Bluetooth can’t detect your Power Hub, first make sure the device has power, Bluetooth is enabled on your phone, and the app has Bluetooth permissions. If the Power Hub device does not seem to get enough power through the HAN port, you can provide extra power with a USB-C cable during pairing.
Power Hub isn’t sending data – how do I solve it?
Check the LED indicator status. Log out and back into the app. Disconnect the device for a moment and reconnect it. If necessary, leave the device on USB power overnight to enable a software update.
What do I do if the HAN port is already in use?
You can use a data signal splitter, which allows multiple devices to be connected to the same HAN port. This may also require a separate power source (USB-C cable).
The Wi-Fi signal does not cover the electricity meter, what can I do?
Power Hub only works on a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. If the Wi-Fi signal to the Power Hub is weak, you can use a Wi-Fi extender to improve the coverage. Alternatively, you can try moving the router or access point closer to the electricity meter, or move Power Hub closer to the network using a longer RJ12 cable.
Note, however, that Power Hub must be indoors or at least protected from the weather.
When using a longer RJ12 cable, Power Hub should be given extra power via a USB-C cable.
Note that a mobile phone often has a stronger antenna than the Power Hub and may show a stronger signal than what the Power Hub actually receives. Therefore, a strong signal on your phone does not guarantee sufficient Wi-Fi coverage for the Power Hub.
Which car and charger brands are compatible with Vaasan Sähkö Smart Home?
Charging of an electric vehicle works by connecting either your car or your charger to the Smart Home app.
Supported car brands currently include: Audi, Cupra, Hyundai, Kia, Mg, Skoda, Tesla and Volkswagen. The number of compatible car brands is increased regularly.
Supported chargers: Charge Amps, Garo, Easee and Zaptec. The list of compatible EV brands and chargers is also updated in the app.
To control your car’s charging through the charging station, the car brand must also be among the supported ones.
Why is it recommended to connect the electric car charger to the Smart Home system?
Without a connected electric car charger, the Smart Home system typically receives updated charging status from the car about every 15 minutes. Communication is faster when the electric car charger is connected to the service.
This enables more accurate and efficient charging planning, as charging can be started and paused with greater precision. The result is a smarter and more optimized charging process.
Why does charging the electric car start immediately even though smart charging is enabled?
Charging starts automatically for a short period to check connections and create a charging plan. When charging is controlled by the car, the initial start can take up to 15 minutes. When charging is controlled by the charging station, the initial start usually only takes a few minutes.
My electric car is not charging at a public charging station – what should I do?
If you want to charge your car regardless of electricity prices, disable the smart charging feature in the app.
Note that if the car’s charger is connected to the Smart Home system, charging through the smart charging function is only possible via the connected charger. This frees you from having to manually disable smart charging — for example, when using a fast charger while traveling.
How do I get notifications about electricity prices and consumption?
In the Smart Home app, you can subscribe to notifications about electricity spot prices. If you use Power Hub, you can also subscribe to consumption notifications and set, for example, a threshold value. The app sends a warning if your consumption exceeds the value.
You can manage notifications in the Smart Home app under Profile > App settings > Notifications.
