Renewable Local Heat or Wind Heat?
Renewable Local Heat – heat with 100% renewable energy
The Renewable Local Heating product exclusively uses renewable energy in accordance with the energy origin guarantee. We certify the energy origin of the Renewable District Heating we sell in compliance with the applicable law on energy origin guarantees.
As renewable energy, we primarily use heat produced at the Pått heat pump facility, which is generated from the recycled heat of treated wastewater. Renewable heat is also produced from biomass, which consists of locally sourced wood chips. Although biomass is burned for energy production, it is still classified as carbon-neutral because, during its growth phase, biomass absorbs carbon and thus acts as a carbon sink.
The definition of renewable energy is regulated by the Renewable Energy RED Directive and the Energy Origin Guarantee Act.
By choosing the Renewable District Heating, you ensure that your share of district heating is produced using renewable energy. The Renewable District Heating is an additional product that can be selected alongside the Local Heat product.
Wind Heat – heat with 100% wind power
Our Wind Heat product is produced entirely from 100% wind power. Wind power is a renewable energy source. The origin of the energy is verified with guarantees of origin.
By choosing Wind Heat, you ensure that the amount of district heating you use is produced with wind power. We verify the origin of the energy we sell in accordance with the Guarantees of Origin Act. Wind Heat is also an add-on product that can be selected alongside the Local Heat plan.
Renewable District Heating Pricing
The Renewable District Heating adds only €1.25/MWh (incl. 25.5% VAT) to your heating bill. For a single-family house, this means an average additional cost of less than €30 per year, and for a 15-apartment building, less than €200 per year.

Wind Heat Pricing
Choosing Wind Heat adds only €1.50/MWh (incl. VAT 25.5%) to your heating bill. For a detached house, this means an average annual extra cost of €26, and for a 15-apartment building, an additional €240 per year.

Verification Obligation of the Heat Provider
As a heat provider, Vaasan Sähkö is obligated to verify that the Renewable District Heating product sold is covered by the corresponding cancellation of origin guarantees.
The Renewable District Heating product is available to new customers only in quantities that match the availability of district heating produced with renewable energy sources.
